Endangered Species Coalition Member Group Highlight: Species Unite

ESC leads the grassroots movement to protect threatened and endangered species and to defend the Endangered Species Act. We boldly confront threats to wildlife and wild places. We preserve and restore biodiversity and seek to ensure its benefits are shared equitably by all communities. What sets ESC apart is that we are a force of genuine collaboration, long-term movement building, and innovation. We are a convener of more than 400 conservation, community, humane, science, faith, sporting, and more than 600,000 individuals. We use our decades of expertise to empower, strategically coordinate, and lift those member groups and voices around the common goal of saving species. We believe that power is an abundant resource that grows as it is shared; by empowering other organizations and individuals, we empower ourselves and build an authentic movement for biodiversity justice.

In that vein, we want to highlight our diverse member groups and their incredible work to save species and habitats in each edition of our newsletter.

For this edition, I would like to highlight one of ESC’s newest member groups, Species Unite. Species Unite’s mission is to lessen animal suffering by changing the narrative toward a world of coexistence. They do this by helping people transition away from animal products with well-researched solutions, telling the stories of those fighting injustice against nonhuman animals worldwide, and campaigning for a better world for all.

Species Unite produces a weekly podcast highlighting individuals doing heroic work to save animals. Some podcasts include Artificial Intelligence and the Future for Animals, Collective Fashion Justice, Saving Wild Tigers, and For the Love of Lemurs.

They also created a wolf curriculum for grades 3-5, 6-8, and 9-12th. It is designed to teach children the importance of protecting wolves to maintain a balanced ecosystem. They believe their Wolf Education Program is crucial in building a new generation of animal activists. Species Unite’s goal is to expand this initiative to every state in the US, reaching hundreds of schools and over 100,000 students. If you know a teacher, please share their wolf curriculum!
