Migration Mural in Progress
Work has begun on the “Migration is Everything” mural in Sunland Park, New Mexico. After several delays, a suitable location has been found that is viewable for traffic heading east through the city. The mural is located on the 2101 block of McNutt Road.
Muralist Victor Casas, aka “mask” has been featured in the New York Times twice for his mural work with a central theme of migration. The community has been invited to participate but recent weather conditions have made that difficult due to spray paint and proximity to vehicles in the area.
A Podcast in Development
In addition to the mural project, the New Mexico Field Organizer has begun initial drafts of a podcast that features Latinx perspectives to issues in the environmental community. NMSU Chicano Programs hosted the space where he was joined by Luciana Nino, organizer with WildEarth Guardians, as well as Luis Guerrero, joining via telephone, who is a Legislative and Political Organizer with the Rio Grande Chapter of the Sierra Club.
